Tuesday – Day 3 of Holy Week
Luke 20:1-21:4 Today Jesus went back to the Temple. Remember yesterday He had cleansed the Temple from the money changers. Once you empty something, it is time to fill it back up. Jesus went to fill it back up with the Word. As He was teaching, some of the chief priests and scribes tried to challenge Him and His authority. (they were probably still a little upset from losing out on some of their income from yesterdays money changing incident) Of course Jesus confounded them with His wisdom. The Word made flesh had no trouble telling them like it really is. Hard to believe they tried to attack “The Word” with the Word.
What about us? Jesus with only a few days left stressed the importance of God’s Word in our life. On a scale of 1-10, where does God’s Word rank in level of importance? What I mean by importance, spend time reading and applying it to our lives. Most of would probably like to say 10, but are actually living out a 4. By God’s grace we can do better.
Matt. 26:6-13 Jesus was also anointed for burial today. A woman came to Him, and with an act of generosity poured costly perfume on His head. The disciples were indignant because they thought this was a waste. They scolded her and said the perfume could have been sold and given to the poor. Jesus corrected them. If someone wants to do something with something they own, who are we to stand in their way. It is ok to do extravagant things sometimes, We shouldn’t feel guilty if we have things, (to give) we should only feel guilty if things have us. (and don’t give)
